Clown Training

Workshops and Trainings for performers who clown, on stage, in festivals, and in health care settings. His teaching focuses on ‘the funny’, lightness, inner and outer connection, non-verbal expression, human authenticity, awareness, and listening. Since his 3 month Bunka Cho (Japanese Cultural Ministry) in 1993 studying Butoh Dance with Kazuo Ohno, Moshe has been developing ButohClown as a training method.

“The work with Moshe is unique, he speaks from the heart and goes far beyond a few techniques, he goes towards the clown as a way of feeling the other, of taking him with you through a language full of humor, truth and poetry, with Moshe you learn”

Grace

“A journey to the inside. Listening, exploring, expression. The sacred mischief in the eyes as an entrance to the humor and lightfulness. The clown doesn´t need a red nose, he´s inside you!”

Jean-Pierre

“Do you have fun? YES! Thank you very much for the wonderful workshop and the huge amount of exploring and remembering!”

Elisabeth

“He is an excellent guide for navigating the inner world and discovering emotional and expressive possibilities from sincerity and joy.”

Luisa

“Thank you for showing me the way to my inner clown. Thanks for you awareness.”

Inner Butoh Clown

Inner Clown

In this workshop we will take off our clown noses, develop your clown from the inside out, and then put the nose back on-if you want to.   Develop your inner clown nose.  Tune in to your inner funny, to the impulses generated by your sense of humor, your delight, mischief, tricksterdom and more….and develop your capacities to share that.

Using your sense of fun and funny (and all your senses) as a guide, define and map your clown world. Expand this universe through improvisations, short set pieces, solos and duos. Use these practices to define, deepen and expand your clowns’ non-verbal vocabulary and emotional expression. Invite humor and lightness into how the clown feels.  Develop capacity to create resonance and connection with the audience.  Work with different levels of expression, from subtle elements of lightness to expansive exuberance.

Deepen your connection to clown through Butohclown practices, integrating aspects of butoh dance into clown theatricality, discover how Butoh demands that the clown be more present by slowing down their movement.  This slowness dissolves all ‘thinking mind’ aspects masking your authenticity, thus bringing you to a place of ‘being’ clown rather than playing clown.  Developing this in-depth internal connection strengthens the clown’s external clarity and physical expression. Butohclown offers great tools to explore and develop your performing, to decompose moments to reveal the fundamental energies driving the clown, and offering pathways to play (with) them.

Based in Richard Pochinko’s (Canadian) clowning method, Ohno-sensei’s lightful butoh philosophies, and physical theater pedagogy, the workshop also integrates a large number of principles and influences from Asia – Kyogen, Butoh, Taoist health exercises, Shintaido and Zen-style walking meditation (kinhin).

For Health Care Clown Groups

Moshe is often working with Health Care/Hospital Clown Groups offering 2-5 day trainings. He designs the workshops with the artistic director addressing the clowns’ collective needs and wishes often working with butoh clown and mindfulness to offer renewal, refreshment and expansion of clown world, play, collaboration, lightness, subtlety and resiliency.

Moshe has worked with CliniClowns (Vienna, Upper Austria, Munich, Hanover, Hamburg, Köln, Dortmund,) Röten Nasen International, Röten Nasen, Deutschland, HCIM2018 + 2022, HaHaHa Akademie, Dr. Clown Fundacja (Poland), Clown Visite, Einherz Clown, Belevingsgerichte Zorg (B)…

“I found the exercises you shared really applicable to our work. We sometimes have an idea that we are ‘present’ but in reality just think that we are. I think any practice that aids us in getting into the right hand brain is vital and frankly delicious! So thanks again! ”
